Pleural fluid puncture - Pleurodesis

 

By puncturing the pleura with a needle, the cause of pleural effusions is diagnosed (Malignancy-infection-rheumatic disease-Tuberculosis-Heart failure) while at the same time, large effusions are drained by placing a catheter or tube in the chest. In recurrent and/or constantly reproducing effusions, medication is administered pleurodesis.
